Oh Mr. Darcy!

Mr. Darcy rings are here! These are antiques brass with a glass overlay. I made them for the Holiday Market I took part in last Sunday in Newark along with some other designs. I kept one for myself (of course) and sold one - so I only have two left! Get em while they're hot! | ecdesign.etsy.com | ecdesign.artfire.com | If the demand is high enough I MAY be forced to make more :)

Happy Birthday Jane Austen!

I had such a crappy day yesterday with no sleep and handing in a job late and my computer going all wonky. Went to bed early, eager to end the day. Then I woke up to wonderful news! I signed onto Tweetdeck and read from my friend @jenni20designs that my Mr. Darcy notecard set was featured on the front page of Etsy last night! How awesome is THAT? My shop was also favorited by 14 new Etsy peeps and I made 6 sales! Even got a few new Etsy followers on Twitter. All and all not a bad way to end last night and begin my day today. Especially being that today is Jane Austen's birthday! Thank you Jane for the inspiration and the good luck! No wonder you are my favorite author. :)

Feature Friday? More like Saturday.

Ok, ok..I know I'm a bit LATE for Feature FRIDAY seeing it's Saturday night but I couldn't help it. Between freelancing, the kids and my husband's work Christmas Party on Friday I had NO TIME! But I am making the time. And SO glad that my featured artist is one of my Fritters! (Twitter Friend) Laura Zarrin (@CreativeGirl on Twitter). She is a wonderful person, a great mom, and an amazing children's illustrator. Here are some samples from her Etsy shop (LauraZee). My favorite is the Elephant. He is SO CUTE, isn't he? The fairies are another favorite of mine - they remind me so much of my daughter!

Laura has also recently launched a semi-custom collage portrait site (zarrindesign.com) in which she takes your photos and creates a painted collage portrait. You have several color options to choose from AND photo layouts. I think they make perfect gifts for grandparents. I know for a fact my mother would LOVE one of my kids. Here are a few sample portraits (Love the antique looking one).

Laura, like me, is everywhere! She has a Facebook Fan Page, an Imagekind Shop, a Blog, a Website, an Etsy shop and a Twitter! She even has another site called Pixie Bears that is available for licensing - so cute! Whew! That was a mouthful! Don't know HOW she does it but I'm glad she does! :) Thanks Laura for being such a wonderful Twitter friend and an inspirational artist and mom!

Butterfly Garden Collection

I was inspired by Spring for this everyday/birthday collection. Spring couldn't get here soon enough!

Nature-Inspired Trend in Holiday Decor

I'm loving the nature theme Holiday trend. Think earthtones like browns and greens, ivory and natural accents like pinecones, foliage and wood. It can be seen in everything from tree trimming to home decor.

Sneak Peek - 2010 Calendar Jan

Sneak Peek - 2010 Calendar Jan, originally uploaded by ecdesignz.

Here is a sneak peek at the January page. Each month will be a different generic pattern, that may or may not have a color or theme linked to the month. This makes the pattern non-holiday specific and perfect for framing or sending as a note card.

Sneak Peek - 2010 Calendar Feb

Sneak Peek - 2010 Calendar Feb, originally uploaded by ecdesignz.

Here's a sneak peek of my 2010 calendar. This print measures 8.5 x 11 and is printed on 100% recycled paper. There is no waste here, I printed to the edges so there was nothing to trim and the pattern itself can be framed for later use. I am also including a dieline on the back that will allow customers to trim and create a flat card. Stock is bright white and blank on the back for message.

Feature Friday the 13th! (the late edition)

So I'm a bit late tonight with my Feature Friday post - had so much freelance work to catch up on - but better late than never! Kids are in bed so now is the perfect time to blog uninterrupted. :)
This week is a little different than usual. This week I have TWO, yes TWO Featured Artisans. Interesting story. I randomly picked a name and I got Leanne from Folk on Etsy but got her shop name confused with another entrant - Elaine (or Lainey as she likes to be called) from Buy My Crap on Etsy. I think the two 'L' names threw me off and the fact that I was typing out the winner as my 3 year old was trying to get my attention. Mommies can only multi-task so well :) So due to my mistake I decided it was only fair to announce both Lainey AND Leanne as this weeks winner(s). I am SO excited about this too because they both make very different things but I think they go well together. Like wine and cheese if you will.

So here's the scoop on Folk on Etsy:
Leanne designs and sews really cool Victorian/Gothic inspired garments and accessories. LOVE LOVE LOVE her cuffs and collars. The Goth girl in me screams out for them. And I love that she uses recycled packaging. We could all stand to be a bit more green, couldn't we? I like to do the same. Waste not, want not! These are a few of my favorites from her shop. Check her out - her work is AWESOME!

Leanne is offering FREE SHIPPING within the U.S. until Saturday November 21st and HALF-OFF International Shipping for my readers and followers. Shipping refunds will be issued after payment is made. Be sure to mention EC Design. Happy Shopping!!

Here's the scoop on Buy My Crap (Don't you love that shop name? LOL)
Lainey makes handmade resin rings with a gothic, vampiric, glittery flair. She even hand makes the molds for the rings. I can totally imagine myself wearing one of her rings with one of Folk's wrist cuffs. And I LOVE that she has a collection of rings inspired by the book, 'Mr. Darcy,Vampyre' by Amanda Grange (which I am almost done reading, btw). I have a fascination with Jane Austen and vampires myself so when the two come together - well, it's pretty awesome. I'm not a purist. I can appreciate the spin-off for what it is. Mr. Darcy is still Mr. Darcy - just undead. :) I think her rings would go fabulously with my Mr. Darcy notecards. Here are my FAVORITES from her shop. It was hard to narrow it down, believe me. So stop by and peruse her wares, would you? You will NOT be sorry! She also makes CUSTOM rings - which is a great offering for a special one of a kind gift.

SPECIAL:: Once Buy My Crap reaches 100 sales on Etsy (25 to go) Facebook fans ONLY will be eligible to receive a SPECIAL GIVEAWAY. So become a fan!
Her stackable rings (shown above) are a great value, btw!! $18 for a set of 3 - YOU CHOOSE your own colors - I love the glitter ones in the winter collection shown above :)

My Feature Friday Artisan of the Week!

Meet my featured artisan of the week: My long-time Twitter friend Amy from @Unstrungsisters on Etsy! The interesting thing about Unstrung Sisters? It is run by Amy and her sister Erin, each living on different coasts. Pretty amazing, huh? And pretty talented ladies too! They make everything from beautiful beaded necklaces and bracelets to hand-stamped, customizable pendants, rings and key chains - even beaded watches! Their designs are totally unique and earthy. Giving them a very warm quality.

This Custom Copper Pendant is one of my favorites. Love the addition of the bead.

And how cute is this personalized keychain? What a great stocking stuffer!

Who doesn't love green? These earrings are too cute and feature one of my favorite colors - and a very trendy color at that. Green really does go with everything!

Last but not least, this gorgeous ring is totally customizable. You can pick from 6 different textures (I believe you can add up to 4 different ones!)  and Unstrung Sisters will wrap it for you...giving the look of a stacked ring. LOVE it! So unique! And who doesn't love the look of stacked rings? To make this ring even MORE attractive Unstrung Sisters are offering $5 off this ring - exclusively to my blog readers and facebook/twitter followers! They will either refund you through paypal or you can contact them through Etsy and they will invoice you the reduced price. What a treat for my readers! Thanks so much Amy and Erin for making such amazing pieces. :)

Why didn't I think of this before??

Ok so I noticed this trend with other artisans and cross-promoting with other artisans and doing features on their blogs so I thought I'd give it a shot. I love promoting my fellow artist's and it certainly is a win-win situation! So here it goes. Fridays will be Feature Fridays on my blog. I am starting this week so if you want to enter just Fan my Facebook page: facebook/com/ecdesigns and add a link to your etsy or artfire shop, blog, fan page, whatever. I will pick one person randomly to feature on Friday. I will tweet about it, FB about it and blog about it! LOTS of chances to be viewed by lots of new people. I have 993 followers on Twitter right now and 263 fans on Facebook as I post this - so lots of opportunity there! All I ask is that you pay it forward! We could all use a little help in getting our name/product/shops out there - so let's help each other out! Just remember to get your entries to me by Friday October 30th at Noon EST. Good luck everybody! Click here ---> facebook.com/ecdesigns to enter!

Wild Things!

I don't need to remind all you Maurice Sendak fans that Where the Wild Things Are is opening this weekend - Friday October 16th to be exact. But did you all know about this Urban Outfitters WTWTA Shop?? I can't wait to take Sophie to see the movie! It is one of her favorite stories, as well as mine. I am so glad I can share a little piece of my childhood with her. These are a few of my favorite things from the shop:

Everything you see here can be purchased from the UrbanOutfitters.com Where the Wild Things Are Shop.

Feelin Crafty

I was feeling a bit inspired the other night after a trip to the craft store so I made Trick or Treat bags for the kids. The image was created in Illustrator and I printed it then taped it over a piece of acetate and cut it out with my trusty exacto knife to make the stencil. I used the wrong kind of acetate so the paint bled into the edges a bit but I like the effect it has. Spooky and messy.

Sweets for the sweet

I have been so consumed by Illustrator lately that I thought I would show some love to good 'ol Photoshop. And this is what I came up with. I want to play with it a bit more and make it softer colors like the top left cupcake - but also create a version that's a bit brighter. Problem is..now I want a cupcake!! Maybe that will be my project tomorrow with the kids - baking and decorating cupcakes. Tis the season to start using the oven again! Hooray for Fall! Now all I need is to go apple picking so I can make delicious apple pie! Ok..that's it..I'm off to bake brownies. ;-)

Good News

I just received some great news via email the other day! Two of my baby shower invitation designs have been picked up by TinyPrints for their new line! I am so excited about this and hope that they do really well. I had SO much fun designing them. Kind of wish I had illustrated a few more. Baby and Juvi are definitely two of my favorite categories to design for. My next assignment is Baptism Announcements. Can't wait to get started. I'll keep you posted on when these invites go live on the site. Yay me! :)
